Places that begin with “D” are overrepresented in the category of Indelible Impressions Made on My Life. These D-highlights come early in my alphabetic journey to Z. The remaining 22 letters will be challenged to hold their own. The villages of Dakuinuku and Dhulikhel merit particular consideration.
FIJI
The bus from civilization got me in the vicinity of Dakuinuku (Fiji). I walked the remaining quarter mile on a well-worn path; wander off it slightly to end up in the Pacific Ocean. Dakuinuku is an Eden, albeit an oftentimes muddy paradise. I forfeited some creature comforts living here but gained an outhouse with a million-dollar ocean view. My month there with a Fijian family was a privilege.

NEPAL
On a clear Himalayan day, I viewed the snow-covered tip of Mt. Everest. As spiritual as this experience is for nearly everyone, the backstreets of Dhulikhel (Nepal) made a longer lasting impression. I still claim it as my most exotic and out-of-this-world travel experience. Sorry Denpasar but you are second place.

FROM THE DESERT TO THE DANUBE
My other “D” places of note are Dante’s View in Death Valley National Park (California), Deming State Park (New Mexico), Denpasar (Bali), Depoe Bay (Oregon), Desert Center (California), Dinant and Durbuy (Belgium), a dinosaur (somewhere on Route 66), Durango (Colorado), and Dürnstein, Austria.

In the coming weeks I invite you to continue this photographic journey through the alphabet to "Z". If you know the loveliest, weirdest, or otherwise noteworthy “D” subject, please comment here or at ncarrstudio.com.
Also share your E List in anticipation of my next installment. Although I have traveled to El Salvador and Estonia, I am not including the names of countries on my way to Z. The next journal article will be limited to cities and places which might include El Paso, El Santuario de Chimayo, and a bird of prey.
